Vintage Report - Tuscan Coast 2015

In a region that offers much variety, a hot vintage was tempered by proximity to the Mediterranean, with early signs of the highest quality in the wines, especially the reds, reports Richard Baudains.

Pisa Province

In the past known - but not particularly Widely - for light, everyday drinking wines, Pisa is emerging as one of the most interesting areas of the Tuscan Coast. Formerly a satellite Chainti zone, today international varieties predominate. Producers describe the 2015s as 'powerful' (Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini from Tenuta di Ghizzano) ...

Tenuta di Ghizzano, Il Ghizzano 2014: Irresistible wine with a lot more personality than you'd expect from an entry-level red. The estate does make flashier wines, but you can't beat this for sheer drinking pleasure. Floral and berry aromas, soft but full of energy. Drink 2020-2030.
