|??Balance, intensity and purity. Transmits the authentic character of Priorat.
The Salanques vineyards are situated at a height of 350/450 meters above sea level on hillsides of pronounced slopes, with the characteristic slate soil called "licorella". Made of Grenache, 70-90 year old Carignan and the??younger Syrah. Grapes are hand harvested then sorted berry by berry on a double sorting table in the winery. Ageing of 14 months in French oak barrels.
| 93 pts,??Wine Spectator #Sept. 30, 2015: "Fresh and focused, this firm red delivers bright cherry and wild berry fruit, with floral, citrus and mineral notes. Harmonious to the point of seeming simple, but the elegance masks impressive depth and intensity. Exhibits power with grace. Drink now through 2027. 500 cases imported." (Tom Matthews)
92 pts, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate??#219:??"??Even the eCuvees.comntry-level red is produced with the fruit of very old and low-yielding vines (except the French varieties which are??always much younger in Priorat), as is the case of the 2012 Salanques, a worthy follow up to the 2010. Opening to aromas of violets that I associate with the 10% Syrah in the blend, the bulk of the blend is Garnacha (65%) and the rest Cari??ena and shows lots of power and balance. This rich, powerful, concentrated Priorat is full of the austerity of the schist slopes and the dry land scape of Poboleda where all their vineyards are located. The tannins are fine-grained and abundant, and the wine should develop and get polished in bottle for a long time. This kind of wine needs really powerful food to match the power of the wine. I see better balance and freshness here than in the 2011. The yields were minuscule in 2012, 500 or 600 grams of grapes per plant, which means they needed the fruit of two vines to produce one bottle of Salanques. 18,000 bottles produced." (Luis Guti??rrez, June-2015)
17pts ?€? Highly Recommended, Decanter #Nov. 2015: "Intense, red-fruited aromas dance over notes of leather and tar. The blackberry toned palate has an equally tarry richness, brightened by a fresh line of refreshing citrus acidity. Complex, bold and generous with superb, harmonious length. Drink 2015-2020."
Mas Doix is the project of two related families, the Doix and Llagostera who farm 17.6 hectares?? of vines near the village of Poboleda. They cultivate six sites of which three lend their names to cuv??es at the estate: Crestes, Salanques and Doix.
The Salanques features 70 to 90 year old Carinyena and Garnatxa.??The Mas Doix Salanques is a powerful yet elegant wine showing the depth of old-vine fruit.
The 2011 is rated highly by both Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson.
